What should I pack in my roadside emergency kit?

Roadside emergency kit checklist

In the event of an emergency, you want to be prepared as much as you can. This blog will cover what you should have in a roadside emergency kit and somethings you should keep in mind.

Items to put in your emergency kit:

  • Tool kit with screwdrivers, pliers and a pocketknife
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Jumper cables
  • A quart of motor oil
  • Gallon of coolant
  • Spray bottle with washer fluid
  • Flares
  • Spare tire with wheel wrench and tripod jack
  • Reflective gear
  • Charger for your phone
  • Rain poncho
  • Water bottles and food like granola or energy bars
  • First aid kit with tweezers, nonlatex gloves, scissors, bandages, gauze, tape and antibiotic ointment
  • Fire extinguisher

Personalizing your emergency kit to suit you

While all the items mentioned above should be packed no matter what, there are a few extra items to think about depending on your lifestyle. Some considerations include whether or not you have children or pets with you, the climate you live in or the age of your vehicle. Pack an extra blanket or granola bars if you expect to always have more than one person with you as an example. You also need to figure out how to store everything in an easily accessible place.
