Fly to Germany, Drive Home Different: A Guide to the Porsche European Delivery Program

The Porsche European Delivery Program lets residents of the United States or Canada order a new Porsche through Porsche Santa Clarita and collect it in person in Germany, right where it was built. You choose your model and your options, select between two delivery centers, and start ownership on European roads instead of in a showroom.

Three things to know before you plan anything. There is a fee associated with any vehicle delivered in Europe. Capacity is limited and not every request can be accommodated. And not every model qualifies.

Who and what is eligible

The eligibility rules are short, and each one matters before you start planning.

Any resident of the United States or Canada can take part, provided the vehicle is ordered with and purchased from an authorized Porsche Center. For our customers, that is Porsche Santa Clarita.

Most Porsche models qualify, but not all. The Porsche Taycan, Macan Electric and Cayenne Electric are excluded from European Delivery. If one of those is the car you want, this program is not the route, and our team can talk through your alternatives.

You must collect the vehicle in person in Germany. This is not a shipping arrangement, it is a delivery experience.

Understanding the fee and the capacity limits

Porsche charges a fee for any vehicle delivered in Europe, and the amount depends on which delivery center you choose. Pricing is set by Porsche rather than by individual Porsche Centers, so contact our team for current figures before you build a budget around the trip.

Just as important: Porsche states that demand for the program exceeds its capacity, and not all requests can be accommodated. That is not a formality. Treat your delivery date as unconfirmed until Porsche confirms it, and do not book flights or hotels before then.

Choose your delivery center

This is the part most summaries of the program leave out, and it changes the trip considerably. There are two options, and they offer genuinely different days.

Porsche Leipzig

Leipzig is the production plant for the Panamera and Macan, and it is also one of the most modern Porsche Experience Centers in the world. Taking delivery here means you also drive a like model on the Porsche track.

The Leipzig experience includes delivery of your new Porsche, a factory tour, dynamic vehicle instruction on the track in a like model, lunch overlooking the track, and one night's hotel stay at a partner hotel.

The track itself runs 6 kilometres, about 3.7 miles, with eighteen training modules built around different obstacles and challenges. If you want to understand what your new car can actually do before you drive it onto public roads, this is the option to ask about.

Sonderwunsch "First Date" at Zuffenhausen

Zuffenhausen is where the 911 is built, and the Factory Collection program there now runs as Sonderwunsch "First Date." It is a custom-tailored half-day experience, shaped to your specific requests within a range of available options, and it is offered only at the Zuffenhausen factory.

Zuffenhausen is also home to the Porsche Museum, where the first realization of Ferdinand Porsche's dream, the Porsche Number 1, is on display.

One scheduling note for either center: museums are closed on Mondays, and local holidays and vacation periods can affect appointment availability and factory closures. Confirm your dates with us and with the European Delivery Team before you book travel.

How the program works, step by step

  • Order. Design your Porsche with our team at Porsche Santa Clarita.
  • Plan. Once your requested delivery date is confirmed, make your travel arrangements and head to Europe. Capacity is limited, so wait for that confirmation.
  • Delivery. Collect your new Porsche at the location where, days earlier, it came off the assembly line.
  • Enjoy. Drive Europe's roads in your own car.
  • Return. Drop the vehicle at one of seven locations when your trip ends.
  • Shipment. Porsche ships your car back to the United States.
  • Reunion. Collect it again at Porsche Santa Clarita.

Where you can drop the car off

You can return your vehicle to the shipping partner in Sindelfingen at no additional charge, on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Factory locations are also offered at no additional charge for vehicles equipped with winter tires.

Additional drop-off locations are available in Bremerhaven, Duisburg and Hamburg in Germany, Nice in France, Madrid in Spain, and Koper in Slovenia. That spread is worth planning your route around, since it means your European itinerary does not have to end where it started.

What else is available while you are there

A factory tour at either Leipzig or Zuffenhausen shows the work most owners never see: the hand-stitching of a cabriolet top, the detail work, and the moment the powertrain and body come together, which Porsche calls "The Marriage."

After the tour, you are invited to a complimentary lunch in the Executive Office Building at the VIP Casino, with the Porsche Selection Boutique nearby.

Starting your order with Porsche Santa Clarita

Every European Delivery begins with a conversation. If you are still choosing your car, our model pages are a good starting point, including the 911 Carrera, the 911 Carrera Cabriolet and the Cayenne. If you are deciding between ordering new and buying pre-owned, ordering new is what lets you configure every detail of the car you will collect in Germany.

Our showroom is at 23645 Creekside Road in Santa Clarita.
