The number one way to keep the longevity of your vehicle is by changing your oil regularly. If you are wondering how often you need to change your oil, keep reading.
Before we dive into the frequency of how often you should change your oil, you should learn why we need to change our oil on a regular schedule. If you do not change your oil frequently, your engine will start to have a lot of problems. Some of the more common issues include the engine becoming less efficient, becoming too hot or components beginning to warp or wear out. The lack of an oil change will end up being a huge price tag when you need to replace your engine or vehicle entirely.
If you have an older vehicle, the frequency will be different from newer vehicles. We suggest having your oil changed every 3,000 miles. This is only an estimate and there are other factors to take into consideration. If you often only take short trips (five miles or less), live in extremely hot, cold or dusty climates, often drive in stop-and-go traffic or carrying heavy loads, you may want to follow a time schedule rather than being based on mileage.
Recently manufactured vehicles can go a little longer without an oil change. The reason being is because modern vehicles have oil-life monitoring systems. Newer vehicles can range from 5,000 to 7,500 miles between oil changes. Full-synthetic motor oil could go as far as 15,000 miles.
